Michelle Obama’s Remarks Spark Conservative Criticism

Michelle Obama faced scrutiny from conservative circles after an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America.” During a segment at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, co-anchor Robin Roberts asked Michelle and former President Barack Obama to sum up their next life chapter in one word.

Barack responded with “fun.” Michelle, on the other hand, chose “me,” which prompted Roberts to respond, “That’s what you call drop the mic.” Her response drew varied reactions. Barack noted that Roberts seemed to appraise Michelle’s answer with high praise.

The interview took place at the newly established Obama Presidential Center. This center, part of a 19.3-acre campus on Chicago’s South Side, includes a museum and public spaces. The center is set to open to the public soon.

Some conservative voices on social media criticized Michelle’s choice of words as self-centered. Stephen Miller from Spectator and commentator Danny De Urbina were among those expressing negative views. They suggested that her response reflected a broader trend of self-absorption in the political class.

Amid the controversy, the Obama Foundation announced that the center will officially open on June 18, with public access beginning June 19. Opening events will run through June 21.

The interview also highlighted a story from Barack, pointing out the significant journey from humble beginnings to influential roles, referencing their upbringing in Chicago and Hawaii.
