Authorities reported that two women and a 9-year-old child, who had been missing while tubing on a Michigan river, were found safe Friday afternoon. The Michigan State Police K9 unit and state conservation officers located them at 4:36 p.m., approximately a mile away from a boat launch on the Muskegon River.
A statement from the state police expressed relief, noting, “This is the outcome everyone hoped for.” The connection between the women, both aged 28, and the child remains unclear. The statement did not provide details regarding their condition or the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
The trio was discovered about 11 miles southwest of a separate boat launch. A car, belonging to one of the women, was found there with a broken window. Her father located the vehicle and contacted authorities. By that time, the group had been unaccounted for over 24 hours, with family unable to contact them.
On Thursday, police found two of the group’s tubes and footprints. The search enlisted the aid of nearly two dozen state police posts, various law enforcement agencies, and additional government departments. Volunteers also participated in the efforts, authorities noted.
