A tragic incident took place in Missouri, where a neighbor fatally shot a mother and her teenage daughter over a disagreement, according to local authorities. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported that 73-year-old Robert Winkelman approached the home of 38-year-old Jessica Lashly in House Springs on July 25 to discuss an ongoing issue.
Upon confronting Lashly, Winkelman drew a firearm and shot her in the head. Her 17-year-old daughter, Jersey Greer, attempted to assist her mother but was also shot in the head by Winkelman. Tragically, both Lashly and her daughter succumbed to their injuries in the hospital a few days later.
The sheriff’s office revealed that another individual was pursued by Winkelman but managed to avoid being shot. The situation escalated further when deputies traced Winkelman back to his residence. As law enforcement confronted him, Winkelman turned the weapon on himself, resulting in his death at a hospital on August 2.
Investigators stated that Winkelman had been upset about noise from Lashly’s residence leading up to the incident. The sheriff’s office described the confrontation as a dispute between neighbors, noting Winkelman’s ongoing frustrations with activities at Lashly’s home.
Jessica Lashly leaves behind a grieving family. Her twin daughters, including Justice Greer, who remembered Jersey as an uplifting and supportive sibling, are now left with their mother’s memory. Justice described Jersey’s final act of bravery as she tried to save their mother, highlighting her sister’s courage.
Coach Abby Feldmann, who mentored Justice and Jersey in lacrosse, praised Jersey’s positive impact on those around her, noting her unparalleled ability to inspire others.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that Winkelman would have faced two counts of first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges if he had survived.
