MLB Gambling Ban and Rising Threats to Players

Dan Dakich, the host of ‘Don’t @ Me With Dan Dakich’ on OutKick.com, discusses the lifetime ban imposed on MLB player Tucupita Marcano for baseball gambling. Dakich argues this ban will likely lead to more bans and suspensions in the future. He also suggests that the WNBA should enhance protection for player Caitlin Clark.

Baseball, celebrated for its iconic moments in sports history, can also reveal negative behavior among fans. Instances such as throwing objects onto the field or issuing threats on social media are becoming more apparent.

The wife of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tanner Scott disclosed threats made against their newborn child on her Instagram, following Scott’s performance in a 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Tanner Scott, previously an All-Star, allowed three runs during the game.

Mrs. Scott shared about her ordeal through Instagram Stories, which the New York Post captured before they expired. One disturbing comment wished death upon their child. Another hoped she would find her family harmed.

Threats toward players are not isolated. Seattle Mariners pitcher Tayler Saucedo faced similar harassment in August 2025, with threats against his own life and his wife’s. Boston Red Sox reliever Liam Hendriks, who survived cancer, and Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. also received threats targeting their families in May 2025. Subsequently, authorities linked these threats to an inebriated sports bettor.

The issue highlights the troubling intersection between sports betting and player safety. This pattern of threatening behavior is not confined to the MLB, emphasizing the broader need for individuals to refrain from such toxic actions online.
