A coordinated manhunt involving several agencies is currently underway for Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, a 22-year-old suspect linked to a series of violent crimes across state lines. The incidents include highway shootings near Arrowhead Stadium, where FIFA World Cup matches were held, as well as a tense confrontation with law enforcement.
The Kansas City field office of the FBI has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to Sanchez-Munoz’s arrest and conviction. He is described as a man of White and Hispanic descent, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing around 184 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on his right forearm. Authorities warn that he is considered “armed and dangerous.”
Details of the Multi-State Crime Spree
Sanchez-Munoz is wanted for involvement in at least six shootings across various states. A state warrant was issued for his arrest after he reportedly fired shots at a vehicle on June 11 in Wyandotte County, Kansas. In addition to firearm discharge charges, he faces an aggravated assault warrant in the same county, accompanied by a $100,000 bond.
The Kansas City Police Department has identified him as the primary suspect in five shootings on Tuesday night, located near Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri, close to Arrowhead Stadium. One fatality resulted from these shootings, another individual sustained serious injuries, and several others, including an Uber driver who was shot while transporting passengers to a World Cup game, are expected to recover.
Standoff and Subsequent Investigation
Following the shootings, a significant overnight standoff occurred at a residence in Independence, Missouri, culminating in the house catching fire. Once fire personnel deemed the location safe, investigators, K-9 units, and Missouri State Fire Marshals searched the property but did not locate Sanchez-Munoz. However, law enforcement successfully recovered the vehicle suspected to be used in the Tuesday night incidents.
No motives for the shootings have been disclosed.
Authorities continue to call on the public to remain alert and are advised to contact law enforcement immediately if Sanchez-Munoz is sighted. Tips can be submitted via kccrimestoppers.com, or by contacting local FBI offices.
