The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a multistate salmonella outbreak. This has been traced to jalapeños served at Chipotle and other restaurants. As of now, 27 states are affected.
The jalapeños involved were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors based in California, and they originated from Mexico. Alongside Chipotle, Qdoba and several other eateries used these jalapeños in their dishes.
Currently, 36 individuals have been hospitalized due to this outbreak. Thankfully, no fatalities have occurred.
Out of caution, Chipotle has pulled jalapeños from its menu. On Tuesday, Chipotle announced this decision. The following day, Qdoba made a similar announcement, stating that jalapeños had been removed from all its branches.
The CDC has assured that neither Chipotle nor Qdoba presents a continued risk since the implicated jalapeños have been taken off the menu.
