Questions persist over the tragic death of Mississippi teenager Nolan Wells, who vanished during a weekend boat outing with friends. Wells was discovered dead on Horn Island two days after disappearing on July 4th.
An official from the United Cajun Navy, a search and rescue team, confirmed to Fox News Digital that Wells’ body was found on July 6th.
According to authorities, Nolan Xavier Wells was last seen on the Fourth of July while boating with friends.
A National Park Service ranger found Wells’ body and reported the discovery, said Brian Trasher, vice president of the United Cajun Navy.
Trasher joined the search when his team was alerted via social media. He noted engaging with locals to gather any insights on Wells’ last appearance or clues that might assist.
The search operation employed boats and an aircraft to scour the area. Trasher mentioned that the air search showed activity on the beach after two hours. They focused where wind and drift patterns guided the current.
Speculation abounds online about how Wells became separated from his friends and the boat. Trasher emphasized, “There’s no evidence suggesting he was abandoned on an island.”
The prevailing assumption is Wells drowned, Trasher told Fox News Digital. Wells’ body was “washed right back” near his last known location, implying he didn’t drift far. Trasher explained, “The wind and drift patterns tell a story.”
Despite their efforts, the United Cajun Navy is not leading the investigation; the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is in charge. The organization shared a search video on Facebook on Monday.
Trasher made it clear, “I’m not a medical professional or investigator. I’m a search-and-rescue guy.”
The authorities are yet to announce the official cause of death. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate and urges public assistance.
Wells’ family has appointed attorney Ben Crump for representation. The family demands a detailed and transparent inquiry into Nolan’s death.
