The airport in Nashville, Tennessee, may soon bear the name of Dolly Parton, following a proposal by Governor Bill Lee. Announced on Friday, the idea comes shortly after the beloved country music legend and Tennessee native passed away from cancer at the age of 80.
Governor Lee expressed that renaming Nashville International Airport would be a significant tribute to Parton, who is often referred to as the state’s favorite daughter. Discussions regarding the renaming have already begun with Parton’s representatives.
Changing the airport’s name could involve revisiting the current naming policy of the Metro Nashville Airport Authority. Presently, this policy requires that individuals must have been deceased for at least two years before an airport property can be named after them. The upcoming meeting of the airport authority on September 17 will address both the governor’s proposal and the existing policy.
