New York Knicks Set to Visit White House to Celebrate NBA Championship

The New York Knicks are preparing to visit the White House to celebrate their NBA championship, as confirmed by an administration official to NBC News. This visit marks the first time NBA champions will meet with President Donald Trump during his tenure.

Knicks owner James Dolan announced the visit during an interview with WFAN sports radio. Dolan confirmed, “We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted. We still have to figure out the details, etc., but yes, of course.” A White House official added that they have contacted the Knicks and are planning to host the team soon.

During the NBA Finals, Dolan invited Trump, stating, “I’ve known him for 30 years, and I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House.” Trump attended Game 3 of the Finals at Madison Square Garden, joined by various administration officials. Despite being booed at the game, Trump watched from Dolan’s box with officials like Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and others.

On Truth Social, Trump congratulated the Knicks and highlighted the achievements of top players like Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. He praised their performance, noting the significant playoff wins witnessed by fans.

The upcoming visit follows a period when NBA championship teams, such as the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors, skipped White House meetings. This trend started when Warriors player Stephen Curry showed disinterest in visiting, leading to Trump withdrawing their invitation. In contrast, during Joe Biden’s presidency, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Warriors, and the Boston Celtics all visited.
