Federal prosecutors have charged a Honduran national with voter fraud in California. This individual, authorities claim, registered to vote under a false identity and participated in multiple elections. Reports reveal he obtained a voter registration card through a gym membership. This incident emphasizes ongoing discussions about voter identification laws.
In another case, a Bahamian national living in the U.S. since President Gerald Ford’s term was found to have voted illegally in the 2020 election. This discovery initiated his deportation procedure. His criminal record reveals violent offenses committed before casting illegal votes. He stands as a recent example in a series of arrests stemming from unauthorized votes in elections. These measures are part of broader efforts by the administration to address election integrity-related offenses.
White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis stated, “This alien was a guest in our country who forfeited his right to be in the U.S. when he committed violent crimes and voted in the 2020 election.” The U.S. government insists that noncitizens casting illegal votes will be deported.
The Department of Homeland Security Investigations confirmed the illegal voting incident. Higgs was arrested in Decatur, Georgia, and now remains in custody for removal proceedings. Initially granted a green card in October 1976, Higgs now faces revocation of his immigration status due to his criminal history.
Senator Markwayne Mullin expressed, “This criminal alien from the Bahamas has a record of violent crimes including armed robbery and assault on a police officer. In addition to these offenses, he illegally voted in the 2020 election.” Mullin highlighted that a single illegal vote can nullify a legitimate citizen’s vote.
The Department of Homeland Security provided additional cases of voter fraud involving noncitizens. In one instance, Carlos Jaramillo-Grajales, a Colombian immigrant, was sentenced to prison after an investigation revealed over two decades of identity theft for illegal voting. Similar cases involved individuals from Slovakia and Australia casting votes in U.S. elections.
In Philadelphia, a collaboration between ICE and the FBI led to the indictment of Mauritanian national Mahady Sacko on voter fraud charges. Sacko’s illegal voting activities date back to 2008, despite an upheld removal order since 2002.
Senator Mullin emphasized, “Thanks to ICE, this criminal will be expelled from our country preventing further election interference.”
