The Obama Presidential Center has opened its doors to the public in Chicago. Former President Barack Obama emphasizes that the center is not intended to be a shrine or museum. He envisions it as an evolving narrative of America, capturing ongoing stories.

Ali Rogin interviews Yale University historian Beverly Gage to explore the messages Obama is conveying through this institution. Rogin discusses Obama’s goals and how the center represents a living story of American history.

Ali Rogin, a correspondent for PBS News Hour, has covered topics such as the Supreme Court and America’s judicial system. Her distinguished work includes a Peabody Award in 2021 for a series on the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has earned two Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association. Additionally, Rogin has been involved in multiple Emmy-nominated projects, such as coverage of the fall of ISIS in 2020, the Las Vegas mass shooting in 2017, President Obama’s inauguration in 2014, and the 2010 midterm elections.
