Ohio Senator Criticizes Connecticut Governor Over Driver’s License Policy

Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio recently demanded explanations from Connecticut’s Democratic Governor, Ned Lamont, following the death of an Ohio man in a car crash involving an illegal immigrant. Moreno claims the immigrant was allowed to obtain a driver’s license due to Connecticut’s policy.

In a statement posted on social media, Moreno revealed that his office learned about the incident. A 29-year-old Ohioan died in a crash caused by a driver with a Connecticut-issued license, despite their illegal status. Moreno criticized this policy, noting that over 60,000 licenses have been granted to illegal immigrants in Connecticut, thereby increasing road risks.

Moreno urged Governor Lamont to apologize for the incident and reveal how many such licenses have been issued. He also sought clarity on whether these individuals have participated in voting during U.S. elections. The accused, Washington Guillermo Naula-Ochoa, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and allegedly disregarding a stop sign leading to the fatal crash.

“Despite his lack of legal status, Connecticut issued him a driver’s license,” Moreno wrote. “This policy’s potential dangers are heightened by the governor’s 2024 proposal to amend the visibility of these licenses.”

The incident has reignited discussions about state policies on licensing undocumented immigrants. In defense, Lamont emphasized that such licenses aim to ensure all drivers are knowledgeable about road rules. He highlighted the benefits of reduced hit-and-run occurrences and increased driver insurance coverage.

Moreno dismissed this reasoning, advocating for the deportation of illegal immigrants rather than their integration into regulated systems. This sentiment aligns with ongoing legal debates, including the Justice Department’s lawsuit against New York over its decision to allow illegal immigrants to secure licenses.
