Oklahoma has dismissed freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers from the football team, as confirmed by team officials on Thursday. This decision comes just days before Oklahoma faces Texas in the Red River Rivalry in Dallas. The university has not disclosed any reasons for his departure, and Rogers’ name has been removed from the team’s roster.
After the news broke, former Oklahoma player and current Sooner Radio Network analyst Gabe Ikard commented on social media:
If you don’t treat the people that pour into the program with the respect they deserve, then there’s no place for you at Oklahoma.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables is known for maintaining a strong culture with stringent program standards since he took over in Norman. The move aligns with the discipline Venables enforces within the team.
Rogers joined Oklahoma as a four-star recruit from Appoquinimink High School in Wilmington, Delaware. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 180 pounds, he had offers from Alabama, Nebraska, and Penn State before choosing the Sooners. During the spring game, Rogers made five catches for 70 yards.
In the first month of the 2026 season, Rogers only participated in six offensive snaps without making any catches. The dismissal of Rogers might affect the team’s depth but is not expected to impact the upcoming game against Texas. Venables’ decision underscores his zero-tolerance policy for anything short of commitment to the team’s values.
