In a discussion with Dazed magazine, Olivia explains that this album captures her initial experience of an adult relationship. She describes it as her exploration of romantic love happening in real-time. Having previously been in relationships characterized by youthful excitement and turmoil, this marks her first genuine, mature romance.
Olivia further reflected on the impact of intimate relationships on self-awareness.
“When you’re in an intimate relationship, it holds up a mirror and shows you parts of yourself that you would never normally see,” she conveyed to the magazine. “That was an endless source of inspiration – something that I’m still mining.”
