The Wake-up Call

Oregon made history this summer, but not in a celebratory way. This serves as a wake-up call highlighting systemic failures that need addressing with innovative solutions. Over 2.5 million acres burned, marking a record high in the state’s history. Alarmingly, 92% of this destruction occurred on public lands. In the last decade, nearly every catastrophic wildfire in the region has originated from these public lands, pointing toward serious management issues and policy shortcomings.
