Patrick Mahomes made a triumphant return at the start of the 2026 NFL season following a significant knee injury he sustained nine months ago. The Kansas City Chiefs opened their season against the Denver Broncos, and Mahomes quickly demonstrated his prowess.
The quarterback scored with a remarkable 15-yard run, zigzagging through the field and diving into the end zone. This move signaled to fans and the league that Mahomes is back in top form.

In the previous season, Mahomes tore both his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral collateral ligament (LCL) during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He had surgery promptly in Dallas and began rehabilitation immediately.
Mahomes chose a quick surgery, following his doctors’ advice to act before inflammation could develop. His rehabilitation involved an intensive routine, including about seven hours a day of strength work and meetings. Opting to remain in Kansas City for recovery, Mahomes avoided his usual Texas offseason sessions to stay with the team’s medical staff.
After meeting health benchmarks through various training stages, Mahomes returned with no restrictions. He successfully led his team into the end zone with an impressive drive, reinforcing his key role for the Chiefs this season.
