Newly declassified records from the Pentagon and FBI highlight a series of orb sightings in the northeastern United States, spanning from October 2024 to June 2025. One notable incident involved two witnesses observing a glowing red sphere with a basketball-sized “white plasma sun” inside.
These sightings are part of the records made public through the Trump administration’s Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Encounters (PURSUE). This initiative aims to make UAP-related files accessible to the public.
Significant October 2024 Sighting
An eyewitness in October 2024 reported a “plasma-like sphere” hovering about 2,700 feet above a pond. The object changed shape and brightness, splitting into smaller lights at times. Another light hovered above the water but didn’t reflect off the surface. The phenomenon lasted 45 minutes before vanishing. The event was captured on an iPhone and authenticated by U.S. authorities, who noted the witness’s credibility.
July 2025 Incident
A second encounter in July 2025 described a bright light below the tree line. The FBI’s interviews confirmed the object as a red sphere with a white center, similar to a “plasma sun.” Witnesses estimated the object was about one meter in diameter and 30 yards away. Video footage of the sighting was gathered, and additional photographs were obtained by FBI agents. The objects moved and merged, eventually disappearing from sight.
The 2023 Incident at a National Security Site
One unresolved 2023 case occurred near a sensitive site in the western United States. Six federal agents observed “mother orbs” releasing smaller red objects. An assessment by the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) indicated that 40% of this activity remains unexplained. The analysis included witness accounts, flight logs, radar data, and more, considering potential military or foreign tech.
Analysts speculated military flares might explain some observations but found no single explanation covered all cases. They proposed “unrecognized technology” as a potential explanation while stressing reliance on witness testimony over physical evidence.
Further Encounters and Assessments
The PURSUE program released a map and details of four incidents grouped as the “Western U.S. Event.” This included reports of “Orbs Launching Orbs,” a “Fiery Orb,” a “Dark Kite,” and a “Translucent Kite.”
In a different case near Colorado Springs in February 2022, U.S. Army personnel saw a shimmering object near Cheyenne Mountain. It appeared aircraft-sized with “potato”-shaped, moving panels and eventually vanished. Investigators later suspected sunlight reflections on snow-covered terrain as a cause, though AARO marked this as low confidence due to uncertain witness angles.
These various UAP reports, ranging from potentially explainable incidents to unresolved mysteries, have provoked mixed responses. Some appreciate the transparency of accessing previously hidden records. However, others criticize the reliance on witness accounts without sufficient technical data for independent verification.
According to former AARO director Sean Kirkpatrick, unresolved cases persist due to insufficient information. Neither the Department of War nor AARO has concluded extraterrestrial involvement based on current data. Released records include observations and investigations but do not confirm extraterrestrial origins.
