The Pentagon has confirmed that the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan will be livestreamed, marking the U.S. military’s first execution in over sixty years. The execution is scheduled for December 3 at Fort Hood, Texas.
A former Army major, Hasan was convicted in 2013 for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, which resulted in 13 deaths and 32 injuries. On that day, he opened fire on unarmed soldiers and civilians after shouting “Allahu Akbar.” His actions led to his sentencing to death.
President Donald Trump authorized the use of an Army firing squad, acting on the recommendation of War Secretary Pete Hegseth. Sean Parnell, a Pentagon spokesperson, stated on social media that “Judgment day for Hasan has finally come.”
If the execution proceeds, it will be the first military execution by firing squad since 1945. Hasan is currently on military death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
