Pete Hegseth serves as the U.S. Defense Secretary under President Donald Trump’s administration in its second term. He took office on January 25, 2025, following the swearing-in ceremony conducted by Vice President JD Vance.
Born in Minnesota, Hegseth completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University in 2003. A decade later, he obtained a master’s degree from Harvard University.
His military background includes years of service in the U.S. Army National Guard, where he participated in active-duty deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Hegseth received numerous accolades for his service, such as two Bronze Star Medals and two Army Commendation Medals, along with the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Expert Infantryman Badge. Additionally, he was awarded the Joint Commendation Medal.
Besides his military career, Hegseth has authored several books. His recent publication, “The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free,” came out in 2024. Prior to his appointment, Hegseth was known for his role as a host on Fox News.
