Pittsburgh Pet Company Launches Educational Venture for Kids and Dogs

Pup O’Clock, a Pittsburgh-based pet company founded by Brian Manni, is blending children’s education, pet ownership, and community philanthropy through a novel initiative aimed at fostering a stronger bond between children and their dogs. The company offers monthly themed subscription boxes that educate children on responsibility through interactive activities focused on pet care.

Manni initiated this venture after observing a trend post-COVID-19, when many families adopted dogs yet struggled with the accompanying ownership duties. According to Manni, imparting responsibility to children is effectively achieved through pet ownership. It instills qualities like consistency, discipline, self-sacrifice, and patience, which contribute to finding long-term meaning in life.

The mission of Pup O’Clock also draws inspiration from Manni’s personal recovery journey. The business model incorporates giving back to programs such as Autism Pittsburgh and Joey’s PAW. A portion of proceeds additionally supports animal shelters and organizations dedicated to enhancing the human-animal relationship.

Manni stated, “I started this company and it paralleled my sobriety journey. We aimed for a community-driven approach, supporting shelters and special needs organizations. Collaborating with Autism Pittsburgh showcases how animals and children can mutually enrich each other’s lives—why not achieve this through entertainment?”

Each subscription box contains educational content, activities, recipes, dog enrichment tools, treats, and themed collectibles. Developed with input from veterinary and pet enrichment experts, these lessons help children grasp their pets’ needs while honing practical life skills.

The startup has teamed up with Point Park University to offer opportunities for students and recent graduates in areas such as animation, technology, web development, and creative arts, as they assist with the expansion of the company’s forthcoming “League of Pups” animated series.

Pup O’Clock launched its 2.0 Kickstarter campaign on October 15, running until November 15. Through this campaign, the company aims to broaden its subscription program, provide more opportunities for local students, and continue supporting community organizations in the Pittsburgh area.
