Pokemon card thefts are on the rise in California, drawing significant attention from law enforcement. In San Francisco, police arrested young suspects involved in a robbery where they used pepper spray and high-tech gadgets. Another incident in Brentwood involved masked individuals stealing thousands of dollars in cards in less than a minute. This prompted the store owner to enhance security measures.
A major theft occurred when nearly $1 million worth of trading cards were stolen from a FedEx truck in Santa Ana. The truck was parked outside Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA) when thieves broke the lock and took more than 200 packages. The stolen cards were primarily sports and Pokemon cards, valued at approximately $963,000. They were graded by PSA and were in transit back to their owners.
Card collector and YouTuber SKY-B was among those affected, losing 104 cards. Many of these were ‘case hits’ or unique 1-of-1s. These cards hold significant value and sentiment to collectors, being ‘irreplaceable’.
The Collectors Clubhouses plan to sell not only card packs but also rare and highly sought-after cards.
The company involved in grading the cards, Collectors, stated they are working with law enforcement and the shipping company to recover the stolen items. They have deactivated the certificates of authenticity for these cards and notified partners to watch for these unique items in the marketplace.
Collectors emphasized their commitment to supporting affected customers. Their customer service team is reaching out to victims to arrange compensation at fair market value. The company views these cards as more than just financial assets and is determined to assist those impacted.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the cards remain missing.
