Newly unsealed police body camera footage has been obtained by CBS News New York, showcasing the arrest of Luigi Mangione in Altoona, Pennsylvania. This footage marks the conclusion of a five-day manhunt after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside a Midtown hotel in 2024.
The video, now publicly accessible outside the courtroom, includes the property search conducted shortly after Mangione’s arrest. It was presented during a suppression hearing in December 2025. Mangione’s defense contended that the search of his backpack infringed on his rights.
Officers responded to a 911 call in December 2024. The call reported that a man fitting the suspect’s description was spotted at a McDonald’s in Altoona. The body camera footage illustrates officers questioning Mangione regarding a fake driver’s license under the name “Mark Rosario.” Mangione later admitted to falsifying his identity.
The footage also documents Mangione’s transport to the police station. A strip search was conducted, leading investigators to find a firearm in his backpack. Prosecutors tied this firearm to the crime scene, and a state judge allowed most of this evidence for trial proceedings.
“Police do not seem overly concerned for safety,” stated legal expert Richard Shorenstein, commenting on the footage.
Mangione pled guilty to federal charges involving interstate stalking leading to death and using interstate facilities for stalking resulting in death. He also faces charges of second-degree murder, weapons possession, and forgery. A first-degree murder charge was previously dismissed in his state trial.
Sentencing on federal charges is anticipated in December, while the progression of the state case remains undecided.
