A woman was shot by New York City police in Times Square on Monday afternoon after reportedly attacking multiple individuals while armed with knives. This information was conveyed by law enforcement sources to local media.
The incident took place near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue. Officers had responded to reports about a person brandishing a knife. Officials noted that the woman allegedly slashed at least two people before officers fired their weapons.
Witnesses reported that the suspect was wielding two knives and did not comply with the police commands to drop them. New York City Councilman Carl Wilson addressed the incident on X, stating, “I’ve been made aware of a disturbing incident in Times Square this afternoon where a suspect wielding knives was shot by police at 42nd and 7th. NYPD is still investigating. 42nd to 43rd on 7th Ave is closed to foot traffic while the investigation continues, and there are no more outstanding perpetrators. Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal shared a similar message on his X page.
