Police Seek Public’s Help After Attack on Spurs Fan in NYC

The New York City Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in locating several men who allegedly attacked a San Antonio Spurs supporter. The incident occurred following the New York Knicks’ loss on Monday. The police released photos of suspects linked to the attack.

The altercation happened during Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and the Spurs, held on June 8, 2026, in New York City. Fans attended a watch party at Bryant Park, which later turned violent. For security reasons related to U.S. President Donald Trump’s attendance, a separate watch party near Madison Square Garden was canceled. Fans were advised to arrive two hours early for the game.

The group reportedly assaulted the victim by punching and kicking him and stripping off his Spurs jersey, according to police reports. The attack took place as the 39-year-old victim walked to his hotel around 12:17 a.m. After the attack, the assailants fled.

The victim was hospitalized and is expected to survive. The NYPD released photos as part of its ongoing investigation.

The incident follows a disruptive NBA finals viewing party in Manhattan. According to police, disgruntled Knicks fans climbed light poles, threw objects at officers, and removed street signs.

The rowdiness occurred a few blocks from Madison Square Garden, where crowds have previously celebrated the Knicks’ playoff journey. However, due to the President’s presence, public access near the arena was restricted on Monday.

Police arrested eight individuals – two of whom were charged with assaulting an officer – while 13 others received criminal court summonses.
