President Donald Trump will host a UFC event at the White House’s South Lawn this weekend. The event, named UFC Freedom 250, will happen on June 14. This will be the first major MMA pay-per-view at the presidential residence. However, the event’s focus has shifted due to tensions between UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria and Interim Champion Justin Gaethje.
Topuria has been involved in a personal dispute following a divorce. Gaethje has used this situation as fuel in their rivalry. In a recent appearance on FOX Sports, Gaethje made remarks about Topuria’s personal life. “I can say this: I would leave him too,” Gaethje said, referencing Topuria’s divorce.
Topuria quickly reacted to Gaethje’s comments, posting a response on social media platform X. He emphasized the need for respect towards his ex-wife, stating, “Justin crossed a line. What happened between my ex-wife and me is our business. To everyone insulting her or speaking about things they know nothing about: show some respect.”
Following Topuria’s response, Gaethje did not hesitate to reply, escalating the situation by bringing his father into the discussion. He stated, “Proving my point. Insufferable little boy. Never said a thing about your wife. You want to speak words to my father then act like I crossed some line. We already fighting buddy.”
Topuria countered by pointing out Gaethje’s father’s involvement in the conversation. He said, “You should’ve kept your father out of this. He was the one calling me a short guy… Then you started talking about my divorce… Idiot.”
Topuria made it clear he intends to settle the score in the upcoming fight. “When I put you to sleep and you’re lying there… I’ll look at your father and ask him one simple question: Who’s the short one now? I’m gonna break you Justin,” Topuria concluded.
Trump is expected to be present to witness this highly personal rivalry. If the fight matches the intensity of the ongoing verbal exchanges, it could become a memorable event.
