A pet owner tested how her puppy would handle being home alone, leading to unexpected results. Heber left her 3-month-old Pomeranian, Marky, alone for 30 minutes while running an errand. She was initially unsure about leaving him in a crate but knew it was a necessary step eventually.
Upon checking the pet camera, Heber discovered Marky staging a protest. She shared the footage on Instagram, revealing the tiny pup crying loudly, wanting his family back. “It must have started the second we left!” Heber said, expressing her regret over the decision.
The situation escalated when Marky managed to escape from the crate by hopping over it. This prompted Heber to retire the crate altogether. The change resulted in a happier environment for Marky. “We decided to let him free roam,” Heber stated. “He’s been a much happier king ever since. No more jail breaks needed!” The family has since welcomed a second dog to keep Marky company.
Crate Training: Pros and Cons
Crate training is popular among dog owners, especially during a puppy’s early life. Experts suggest crates should be seen as a safe haven, not punishment. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), crates can provide a dog with a personal space to relax, sleep, and feel secure. They aid in house training and prevent destructive behavior.
However, crate training does not suit every dog. The AKC advises against forcing dogs into crates or using them for punishment, which can result in negative associations. Instead, they recommend gradually building positive connections with the crate, encouraging dogs to accept it willingly.
