Former RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has discussed the possibility of Democrats pursuing a third impeachment of President Donald Trump if they gain control of Congress. This topic arose on ‘Fox News Live,’ where McDaniel analyzed the political repercussions of renewed impeachment efforts. She also speculated on how Trump might influence Republican strategy and crucial races leading up to the 2026 midterm elections.
Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, declared on Monday his intention to initiate another impeachment vote against President Trump. He cited the killing of two U.S. citizens by federal immigration officers earlier in the year as the reason. Green, who has frequently protested Trump, submitted a privileged resolution to the House. This allows any lawmaker to compel the chamber to consider a bill within two legislative days, necessitating a vote by Wednesday.
The impending vote poses a political challenge for Democrats striving to reclaim the House and Senate in the November midterm elections. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., has consistently avoided the subject of impeachment, prioritizing issues like high living costs that impact everyday Americans. He and 127 House Democrats sided with Republicans to suppress Green’s previous Trump impeachment effort in June 2025.
However, Green’s latest attempt may be his last public protest against Trump. The 79-year-old progressive recently lost his primary to a younger Democrat advocating for generational change. Green has been ejected from both of Trump’s joint session addresses to Congress during this term. During Trump’s State of the Union address, Green displayed a sign reading, ‘Black People Aren’t Apes.’
Democratic leaders have indicated they will initiate numerous investigations into Trump’s administration and associates if victorious in the upcoming elections. Green asserted that Democrats need not await these inquiries, demanding an immediate vote on impeachment. In a letter to House colleagues, Green questioned the necessity of waiting when lives continue to be lost and victims plead for assistance. He stated that the available evidence shows Trump is unfit and dangerous to American democracy.
The impeachment resolution accuses Trump of posing a great threat to democracy and the Constitution due to alleged high crimes and misdemeanors. The resolution references the federal immigration officers’ killing of two American citizens during a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration.
