Israel and Iran have exchanged long-range missile strikes for the first time since a ceasefire went into effect two months ago. Both nations seem to have agreed to halt their assaults momentarily, after escalating fears of heightened conflict in the area. Political leaders, including Donald Trump and regional mediators, are now striving to solidify a peace agreement with Iran.

Ali Rogin reports on these recent developments. Rogin, a correspondent for PBS News Hour, specializes in reporting on the Supreme Court and America’s judicial system. Her accolades include a Peabody Award in 2021 for a series on the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also received two Edward R. Murrow Awards and contributed to several Emmy-nominated teams covering significant events such as the fall of ISIS in 2020, the Las Vegas mass shooting in 2017, the inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2014, and the 2010 midterm elections.

Coordinating producer Winston Wilde of PBS News Weekend also contributed to this report.
