Rep. Stevens Advocates for Focus on Michigan in Senate Race

Democratic concerns intensify in the Michigan Senate race as a Fox News poll reveals Republican Mike Rogers leading Abdul El-Sayed. Michigan Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens appeared with Jacqui Heinrich to defend the party’s stance, address demographic weaknesses, and share strategies to engage key voters before the important election.

Rep. Haley Stevens from Michigan called on Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate nominee, to end his association with the controversial streamer Hasan Piker. Speaking on ‘The Sunday Briefing,’ Stevens expressed that El-Sayed, who previously defeated her in the primaries, should now focus on the needs of Michigan voters as he transitions to the general election.

While backing El-Sayed, Stevens continued her primary-season critique of Piker, reaffirming her dedication to the Democratic Party. She argued that aligning with Piker serves no purpose and emphasized the strengths of the Democratic agenda on issues like healthcare, democracy, and supporting Black-owned businesses over those of his opponent, Republican Mike Rogers.

When asked about El-Sayed’s efforts to gain the support of groups that favored Stevens, including Jewish voters, Black voters, and Reagan-era Democrats, Stevens highlighted her success with these demographics. She identified as a Zionist Democrat and emphasized the party’s inclusivity, affirming that it accommodates all these communities.

‘It certainly makes sense to get rid of this Hasan Piker affiliation,’ she said.

Despite her narrow primary loss, Stevens insisted on sharing her vision and values within the Democratic Party, aiming for inclusivity and a sense of security for those who share her viewpoints.

The Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters is crucial for the Democrats, among roughly a dozen Senate races that will determine the Republican hold on their slim majority. Peters supported Stevens in the primaries.

A Fox News poll shows El-Sayed trailing Rogers by four points in the general election, with weak performance among Black voters, women, and suburban voters compared to Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential run.

Rogers and El-Sayed will contest the Senate election on November 3 in Michigan, a crucial swing state.
