Democratic Strategies Mocked: Midterm Campaign Tactics Under Scrutiny
Attorney Matt Belinsky and The Federalist’s Brianna Lyman examined a report from Axios on the strategies employed by Democrats during the midterm campaigns. The report highlighted certain campaign tactics as ineffective and lacking in impact.
Additionally, the discussion touched on Steve Hilton’s widely shared comments made on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Hilton criticized the policies of Democratic leaders, attributing the decline of Los Angeles and spike in gas prices to these policies.
GOP Primary Contest: Pelino vs. Guckian
In the Republican primary in Rhode Island, two candidates are in a fierce battle: Elaine Pelino, a former NFL cheerleader and party-line candidate, and Aaron Guckian, a former aide of ex-Governor Donald Carcieri, known for his centrist stance.
The race, which remained too close to call by early Thursday, focuses on experience and credentials. Republicans hope to secure a win in this traditionally Democratic-dominated state.
Pelino’s Campaign Focus
Pelino has prioritized merit-based hiring, law enforcement support, and school choice in her campaign. At a candidate forum, she stated, “I’m here because I love Rhode Island. I want them to have a great life and live in a prosperous and safe place. We should get all the illegals out of here.”
Previously, Pelino has worked in various fields including modeling, media, and as a cheerleader for the Houston Oilers. In 2011, she launched Tigress magazine, publishing 12 issues before it ceased operations.
Guckian’s Policy-Centric Approach
Guckian advocates for a thorough overhaul of Rhode Island’s permitting system to enhance state operations. He points out that the state budget has significantly expanded, from $9.3 billion in 2019 to over $14 billion expected between 2024 and 2026, due in part to the lapse of federal COVID relief funds.
Guckian highlighted a critical error: the foundation of lasting commitments on temporary federal assistance.
Upcoming General Election
Once either Pelino or Guckian emerges victorious in the primary, they will face tough competition in the general election slated for November 3. Success will require overcoming the historical Democratic preference of the state’s electorate.
