A growing number of Republicans are calling for Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, to resign and withdraw from his congressional campaign following serious allegations of abuse made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. Miller strongly denies these claims, which gained national attention after he addressed them during a livestream on Sunday. Her father, Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, subsequently condemned Miller publicly.
Miller has consistently stated his intent to seek reelection, in spite of the senator’s public comments about the potential risk Miller poses to his daughter and granddaughter. The deadline to replace a candidate is August 10, as stated by Ohio’s Secretary of State spokesperson. County party chairs in the district will select the replacement candidate if needed.
According to legal documents released by her lawyer, Emily Moreno has accused Miller of serious acts of violence involving a firearm and physical assault. Miller has not faced any criminal charges related to these accusations and continues to refute them. In response, Miller filed a defamation lawsuit against Emily Moreno, which her lawyers seek to dismiss.
On Tuesday, Miller voluntarily requested a House Ethics Committee investigation into the domestic abuse allegations outlined by his ex-wife. He asserted he has “absolutely nothing to hide.” In the livestream, Miller released documents he claims disprove the allegations and questioned the credibility of the accusations.

Emily Moreno’s spokesperson, Stefan Mychajliw, criticized Miller’s comments, describing them as a bizarre and lie-filled rant
aimed at preserving his political career. Mychajliw emphasized what he called substantial evidence of Miller’s violent tendencies.
The allegations have incited strong reactions from Democrats, and an increasing number of Republicans have publicly condemned Miller. Some demand that he ends his reelection campaign in Ohio’s 7th congressional district. Miller’s representatives have not provided a comment.
No party member has yet replaced Miller. Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., criticized Miller with a post on social media over a separate incident involving a child’s toy, describing Miller as a degenerate sociopath
and expressing concern about potentially losing the congressional seat to Democrats.
Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, responded to inquiries regarding resignation by stating that any member of Congress involved in domestic abuse should step down. Husted welcomed the House Ethics Committee’s investigation, pressing for an inquiry into possible domestic violence and drug use.
Husted later declared via social media that anyone who commits domestic violence is not fit for Congress
and indicated that resigning would be in the best interest of Miller’s daughter.
Rep. Katie Britt, R-Ala., suggested on Semafor that Miller should resign and exit the race, noting the unsettling nature of his interviews for those familiar with abuse. Other Republican senators, including Roger Marshall, R-Kan., who trusts the Moreno family, have echoed similar sentiments.

for her and her family and questioned whether Miller meets basic character standards expected from public officials.
Senators like Shelley Moore Capito and Lisa Murkowski show willingness to support calls for Miller’s resignation, highlighting concerns over domestic abuse allegations within legislative ranks.
