Rey Mysterio Reflects on His Wrestling Journey and Upcoming Match

Before Rey Mysterio became widely known for his signature 619 move and his success in WWE, his wrestling journey started at AAA. He participated in the very first Triplemania event in 1993. Back then, he was known as Rey Misterio Jr., teaming up with Volador and Misterioso to battle Tony Arce, Vulcano, and Rocco Valente, collectively called Los Destructores.

Fast forward over three decades, and AAA remains a significant part of Mysterio’s career. Now, Mysterio serves as the general manager of AAA and headlines Triplemania 34 Night 1 in Las Vegas.

Mysterio expressed his excitement about this stage of his career. “It’s a very special moment for me,” he told OutKick Dropkick. “AAA was my first platform, and I was there at the first Triplemania. Seeing this journey come full circle is incredible.” Mysterio navigates multiple challenges, including his recent decision to create a match with Omos for the first Triplemania in Las Vegas.

This year, Triplemania is being held as a first-ever two-night event, with the second night scheduled in Mexico City. Mysterio’s storyline with the 7-foot-3 Omos will likely conclude on Friday night. After physical altercations with Mysterio and injuries inflicted on other wrestlers, Omos was suspended but continued his aggressive behavior, even recruiting Dominik Mysterio to attack Rey Mysterio.

Mysterio’s history of overcoming larger opponents fuels his confidence. He stated, “I’ve faced giants before. I was always the smallest in the ring growing up, so facing someone like Omos doesn’t intimidate me. I’m ready and motivated.” As GM, Mysterio also seeks to assert authority within AAA, emphasizing the importance of maintaining respect and boundaries among wrestlers.

The stakes are high for this match. If Mysterio loses, Omos will rejoin the AAA roster. A win ensures Omos will never fight in AAA again. Triplemania 34 Night 1 occurs at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Friday night, followed by Night 2 on Sunday at Arena CDMX. The events start at 10 p.m. ET and are accessible on YouTube.
