On July 4, as Americans were gearing up to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday, unsettling images surfaced on phones and televisions. A gathering of hundreds of masked individuals took to the streets of Washington. Their march featured flag-bearing and chants of “Reclaim America!” Upon closer inspection, logos on their matching baseball caps identified them as members of the Patriot Front, a white nationalist organization.
This occurrence highlights a growing issue in the U.S. Nearly 1 in 7 white men under 30 show support for white nationalism. Such support cannot be fully attributed to partisanship. This suggests other factors influence these young individuals.
