Robert Davi, a veteran actor, singer, and filmmaker, has been a prominent critic of California’s political leadership and its cultural trajectory. Despite this, he never anticipated leaving the state. Known for roles in films like “The Goonies” and “Die Hard,” Davi, a Queens, New York native, made Los Angeles his second home in 1977. Drawn by his burgeoning career, he embraced the California lifestyle.
Yet, crime and homelessness have compelled Davi to move to Florida. His frustration also stems from what he perceives as a political blacklist due to his support for former President Donald Trump. He believes these issues, along with mismanagement within local education systems and frequent wildfires, were major factors in his decision.
“The overwhelming influx of homelessness, political corruption, and the waste of money by local agencies were all contributing factors,” Davi said.
Davi noted significant changes in Los Angeles, mentioning the increased security measures in stores due to theft. Despite his love for California’s weather and lifestyle, the home invasion and killing of Jacqueline Avant on December 1, 2021, marked a turning point.
Avant was the wife of Clarence Avant and the mother of Nicole Avant, married to Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. Davi, a performer of Frank Sinatra’s music, found this incident particularly disturbing. Within months, he relocated to Florida.
Reflecting on Hollywood’s shift, Davi questioned how California and the industry became so left-leaning. He referenced Ronald Reagan’s presidential run and recalled a time when diverse political opinions were more accepted in Hollywood.
“The Screen Actors Guild wasn’t afraid. Conservatives were not afraid to talk,” he remarked.
Fox News Digital contacted California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office for comment on Davi’s criticisms.
