On September 12, downtown Lake Zurich hosted the 13th annual Rock the Block event under clear sunset skies and temperatures in the 80s. The event ran from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and attracted an estimated 8,000 attendees.
Live music filled the air with performances by three bands: The Ron Burgundy’s, Libido Funk Circus, and 7th Heaven. Food trucks lined Main Street, offering a variety of culinary treats, while vendors set up booths. The event featured a large bar serving adult beverages with many volunteer servers.
“It’s a perfect night,” said Lake Zurich Mayor Tom Poynton.
Poynton initiated Rock the Block in 2013, aiming to foster community spirit and draw people to the Main Street area, which had undergone significant streetscape improvements.
This year’s event showcased a lively, vibrant atmosphere, making downtown a more secure and efficient setting for accommodating large crowds. Mayor Poynton emphasized the importance of volunteers, thanking nearly 100 individuals for their contribution.
Visitors enjoyed both complimentary and paid amenities. Julie Austin, originally from Lake Zurich, expressed her affection for the annual event, attending with family and sporting bright red sunglasses. Matt Mazur, along with his wife Mariola and their son Preston, appreciated the family-friendly environment. Zara Joneja, a young attendee, enjoyed corn on the cob, showcasing the simple pleasures offered at the event.
Community bonds were evident as families, including the Dillinghams and Shresthas, dined together and supported local vendors. Emily Dillingham expressed her admiration for Rock the Block, praising its value to the community.
Volunteers played a vital role, as highlighted by Arbin Shrestha, acknowledging their hard work in making the event successful.
