Russell Wilson, a Super Bowl champion, announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday. His wife, Ciara, reacted emotionally to the news. The singer and songwriter, married to Wilson for nearly ten years, shared her thoughts on their shared journey.
Ciara expressed, “The best in the world! There’s only one, 3!” in response to Wilson’s retirement notice. She continued, “Always so proud of you! It’s a true blessing to go on this journey with you! My greatest inspiration! I love you so much!”
Wilson’s retirement comes after reports of a new role as an analyst with CBS Sports. He remarked in his retirement video, “As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports and ‘The NFL Today,’ I’m so blessed to continue doing what I love most – being around the greatest game in the world.”
In the heartfelt video, Wilson extended his gratitude to family and friends who supported him throughout his NFL career, particularly Ciara. “Thank you, C. I thank you, Ciara, for being my greatest blessing, my best friend and my partner through it all. None of this journey called life would have been the same without you,” he shared.
Wilson, a ten-time Pro Bowl quarterback, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft from NC State. His decade-long tenure with the Seahawks included a memorable championship win against the Denver Broncos, scoring 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Eventually, the Seahawks traded Wilson to the Denver Broncos before the 2022 season. However, he did not achieve the same success in Denver. After two seasons, Wilson moved on to short stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants before retiring.
Over his 14-season career spanning 205 games, Wilson achieved a 121-80-1 career record. He completed 64.6% of his passes, accumulating 46,966 yards with 353 touchdowns against 114 interceptions.
