Despite surpassing Tiger Woods by an additional $10 million, Scheffler’s focus extends beyond financial success. According to his caddie, Ted Scott, the acclaimed golfer’s priorities lie elsewhere.
Scheffler’s Rise to the No. 1 Player
Scheffler reached the pinnacle of global golf rankings in March 2022. This achievement coincided with LIV Golf’s attempts to entice top players from the PGA Tour, preceding the inaugural event of the Saudi-backed circuit by three months.
The Beginnings of a Successful Partnership
Scott began his caddying role for Scheffler in November 2021. Their partnership was still evolving, yet one conversation between them highlighted Scheffler’s unique mindset. Scott recounted during a PGA Tour Radio interview that at the onset of their collaboration, Scheffler ranked 19th globally and used a plain white golf bag. When Scott queried the absence of sponsors, Scheffler expressed his preference for playing with chosen equipment over sponsorship deals.
“I asked him, ‘Why don’t you have sponsors?’ He said, ‘I just want to play with the equipment that I want to play.'”
Amidst the LIV Golf discussions, Scott speculated that Scheffler might receive offers upwards of $250 million to join. Scheffler’s response conveyed his ambition to compete against the best, regardless of monetary incentives. Scott acknowledged this conversation as an insight into Scheffler’s distinct approach.
Achievements and Earnings
With Scott’s previous success as a caddie, notably during Bubba Watson’s Masters wins, his collaboration with Scheffler has proven formidable. The pair has secured Scheffler’s 22 PGA Tour victories since February 2022, accompanied by four major championship titles.
In 2026, Scheffler earned nearly $31 million from the PGA Tour. Caddies typically receive around 10% of player earnings, suggesting Scott earned over $3 million from the past season.
