The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has implemented a new regulation that prohibits athletes drafted by NFL, NBA, or WNBA teams from returning to college sports. This decision aligns with the Big Ten’s stance after the recent spike in professional players attempting to resume their college careers.
This move comes after court orders had allowed released players to rejoin college teams. The SEC’s restriction is broader than the Big Ten’s, which applies solely to football.
The SEC’s decision sends a clear message about the conference’s position. For instance, it affects LSU, where coach Lane Kiffin recently brought on Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. Both individuals participated in NFL tryouts, but their teams released them during training camps.
