Actor Selma Blair was detained after a flight from Los Angeles to New York due to allegations of physical abuse and injury to two flight attendants. The incident occurred late Sunday night when the Delta Air Lines flight arrived at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed her arrest in a statement.
The airline did not immediately respond to requests for further comment. Blair, aged 54, and one of the flight attendants, were taken to a hospital for evaluation. The FBI, tasked with investigating all in-flight assaults, withheld details of the case. Sydney Kleinmann, an FBI spokesperson, mentioned that they do not comment on ongoing investigations.
State and federal prosecutors in New York, along with Blair’s publicist, also did not provide immediate responses to inquiries. A representative for Blair stated to various media outlets that a medical emergency led to her behavior.
Blair is known for her roles in films like Cruel Intentions (1999), Legally Blonde (2001), and Hellboy (2004). In recent years, she has become an advocate for disability rights following her 2018 diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Blair joined President Joe Biden at the White House in 2023 to commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Previously in 2016, Blair publicly apologized for an incident on a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles after mixing alcohol with medication, which resulted in a blackout.
