Senator Dan Sullivan, Republican of Alaska, recently expressed his readiness to confront Democrat Mary Peltola in the upcoming Senate race. During a conversation on the Ruthless Podcast, Sullivan highlighted supposed efforts by Senate Democrats to interfere in Alaska’s significant Senate contest this fall. He remarked, “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and far-left groups claim that control of the Senate hinges on Alaska.” He further explained how negative advertisements funded by these groups have been targeting him since June of last year. “They bombarded me with negative ads over the year, and now they seem to be trying a different approach,” he stated.
The race has gained national spotlight due to allegations that Democrats recruited another candidate named Dan Sullivan to confuse voters. This candidate, reportedly a retiree, is suggested to be running against the incumbent, adding a layer of complexity to the race. “They brought in someone with my name, a progressive far-left individual,” Sullivan, a Marine veteran, mentioned. “He’s been backed by ActBlue and other left-leaning supporters, and he even attempted to register using my middle initial, which was denied by the Division of Elections. Furthermore, he appropriated my website and logo.”
Podcast co-host Josh Holmes elaborated on the tactic, stating, “The Democrats can’t defeat Dan Sullivan easily, so they’ve resorted to placing someone of the same name in the election mix to cause confusion, potentially affecting voter decisions within a competitive margin.”
Sullivan, who began his Senate service in 2014, remains confident. “I believe this strategy will fail,” he shared. “I am constantly interacting with the community, participating in parades, and working harder than anyone else. People are upset with these tactics.”
Mary Peltola leads the Democratic primary field, having previously served in the House of Representatives following Don Young’s death. Her campaign denies any involvement in the alleged strategy with the other Sullivan candidate.
The upcoming Senate race in Alaska could determine Senate control. Fox News categorizes the contest as a toss-up, alongside races in Iowa, Maine, and Ohio. The Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority, including Independents aligning with them.

Primary elections in Alaska are set for August 18, with the general election occurring on November 3.
