Senator Booker Expresses Concerns Over Platner’s Candidacy

Senator Cory Booker expressed worries on Sunday about the potential impact of recent revelations concerning Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate nominee in Maine. Reports have emerged suggesting that Mr. Platner exchanged sexual messages with women outside his marriage, raising questions about his candidacy.

During an appearance on ABC’s ‘This Week,’ Booker shared his concerns about the implications of Platner’s personal history on the Democrats’ chances of securing a critical Senate seat. He remarked, ‘Yeah, I have concerns. That guy has questions to answer. And that’s what campaigns are for.’

Booker emphasized the importance of the Democrats gaining control of the Senate, indicating that the nation requires a check on what he described as an ‘out-of-control president,’ suggesting that the current administration is driving up healthcare, childcare, and gas prices.

Despite Platner’s progressive campaign gaining momentum in Maine, his personal history, including controversial online statements about women and other topics, has fueled concerns among Democrats regarding his electability.

On the same day, Senator Booker and fellow Senate Democrats fielded questions about reports from the previous day that mentioned Platner’s wife’s notification to his campaign about his involvement with other women. The Republican campaign arm quickly capitalized on the news, disseminating reports and targeting Platner.

Among the Democrats, Booker, previously a presidential candidate and regarded as a potential 2028 contender, notably voiced his unease about the situation.

Senator Andy Kim of New Jersey stated that he was not concentrating on the Maine race and had not met Platner. During a segment on CNN’s ‘State of the Union,’ Kim mentioned, ‘I will work with whoever the people of Maine elect. But I hope that they elect somebody that is going to stand up to this president.’
