Senator Mitch McConnell, representing Kentucky, will cast his first vote in the Senate after months of speculation about his health. McConnell had been absent since June following a fall.
In a statement released Monday, McConnell confirmed, “I will cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June.” He added that his recovery had been lengthy and challenging due to lingering childhood polio effects. Although not fully recovered, he promised Leader Thune to be present for crucial votes while continuing therapy as advised by doctors.
McConnell also expressed gratitude for the support from Kentuckians. He stated, “Elaine and I are very grateful for all the continued well wishes from our fellow Kentuckians, and I’m glad to get back to more of business as usual on their behalf this month.”
At 84, McConnell had been absent from the Senate since early June due to the fall at his Washington, D.C., residence, which led to pneumonia and required rehabilitation. His return aligns with upcoming votes on significant farm aid and funding packages. Previously, the absence of his vote resulted in the failure of a related bill.
