Senator Slotkin’s Remarks Challenge Young Conservatives

Recently, Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin addressed young conservatives at the University of Chicago. Her message was clear: caution against participation in government roles. The visit initially garnered little attention. Slotkin chose her words carefully throughout the speech.

She addressed issues like supporting the middle class and critiqued President Trump’s economic policies. Additionally, Slotkin hinted at a potential presidential run in 2028. However, a significant part of her speech targeted young conservatives considering roles in the Trump administration.

Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, so let me avoid participating in that.

Slotkin suggested that by focusing efforts on those surrounding the president, young conservatives might reconsider their involvement due to potential repercussions.

This warning resonated with me. As a former United States Senate Page, my experiences shaped a deep respect for government institutions. During my service, senators across political lines encouraged us to engage in politics and make a difference. That contrast challenges Slotkin’s recent remarks.

My optimism grew from that program, believing that the Senate could remain a deliberative body and encourage young people’s involvement. Slotkin’s comments should not reflect the Senate’s general conduct.

Her remarks come at a critical time, with the midterm elections approaching. If Democrats gain power, Slotkin’s strategy could impact young conservatives eager to serve. Furthermore, her aspirations for a 2028 presidential campaign might become a reality.

This moment highlights the need for young conservatives to voice their opinions and get involved. Regardless of your educational background, every voice in America matters. If you have the desire to serve, pursue it.

Slotkin’s seriousness underscores the personal cost for those choosing public service. Inquiries and actions during the Biden Administration demonstrated this tension, particularly for young conservatives. These challenges stress the importance of perseverance.

The struggle remains crucial. Allowing governance by those seeking revenge poses a risk to democracy. To counter this, young people must engage in civic duties. John Adams once asserted the significance of youth as a defense. His perspective remains relevant 250 years after America’s founding.

Do not be intimidated by Slotkin’s threats. Instead, view them as a call to serve. The Republic’s fate hinges on active involvement from all citizens, including young conservatives.
