Evacuations in France
In southwest France, the fires have forced many to flee their homes. Dylan Boudier, a 31-year-old butcher, witnessed his family evacuating as the wildfires approached their residence near the Atlantic coast. His sister and parents left first, and now Boudier fears that his own home is at risk.
Impact on Spain
In Spain, firefighters are engaged in intense battles against the fires. Near Avila, about 80 kilometers west of Madrid, a major wildfire is threatening communities. Efforts to control the blaze are ongoing, but the situation remains precarious.
Massive Displacement
An estimated 300,000 people have been displaced as these wildfires spread across the region. Many have taken to fleeing by boat or sleeping in their vehicles, looking for safety wherever they can find it.
