An individual faced sexual assault early Sunday morning at an off-campus gathering near the University of Chicago, as reported by officials. The victim contacted authorities at 2:10 a.m., approximately 30 minutes after the incident, and did not recognize the assailant according to the university’s incident report.
The gathering occurred at 5625 S. University Ave. in Hyde Park. Social media lists this location as the residence of the Lambda chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. The university’s student handbook highlights that sexual misconduct breaches campus community standards and remains “unacceptable” even if it does not contravene the law. It encourages individuals who have undergone sexual misconduct to report it and seek medical attention.
“Sexual misconduct can be devastating to the person who experiences it directly and can adversely impact family, friends, and the larger community,” the handbook emphasizes.
