Sheila E. Criticizes Festival Organizers After Tragic Death at Concert

Sheila E., a well-known musician, expressed strong criticism toward festival organizers after a woman’s death occurred during her performance at the Carson Jazz Festival in Southern California. The woman, Shari Sanders, reportedly passed away amid intense heat, leaving a profound impact on attendees and Sheila herself.

Heartbreaking Incident

Sheila shared her deep sorrow on social media, explaining how the tragic incident unfolded. She emphasized that such an occurrence was unprecedented in her career. Temperatures soared above 100 degrees, contributing to the difficulties faced by concertgoers.

Arriving at 7:30 a.m., Sheila noted that attendees were already lined up, eager to enter the event. Organizers allowed entry half an hour early. Emergency crews were actively moving through the crowd, and Sheila, waiting with her band, observed the chaotic scene from the dressing room.

Concert Disruptions

Sheila described the confusion that ensued, with delays and the absence of a sound check. As they waited for the next band, everything suddenly halted. She later learned about Shari Sanders, who was reportedly saving seats for her family when she became unresponsive. Despite bystanders checking on her, paramedics only arrived about 20 minutes after she was first noticed unresponsive.

Failure in Response

Sheila was informed of Sanders’ passing after the fact, expressing her heartbreak over the loss. Lack of hydration stations and prolonged outdoor waiting times were criticized. She urged Carson City to improve their festival management, noting that the festival has a history spanning 40 years.

During her performance, Sheila dedicated a moment of silence to Sanders and her family, stopping the show after the first song. Shockingly, Sheila discovered that Sanders’ body was not removed from the venue until after her performance had concluded around 5 p.m.

Call for Accountability

Sheila questioned the organizers’ decisions, asserting that the festival should have been halted. Acknowledging her “Queen of Percussion” title, Sheila expressed her regret and sympathy for Sanders’ family, conveying her personal condolences.

Carson City Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes addressed the tragedy, offering condolences on behalf of the city. She urged the community to support Sanders’ family during this challenging period.
