Shooter Dies After West Texas Standoff, Leaving Multiple Injuries

A shooter in Midland, Texas, died following a standoff with police. The incident led to one fatality and at least nine injuries, according to city officials. The active shooter situation began in one part of the city and concluded near a veterinary hospital.

Authorities used robot and drone footage to confirm the shooter’s death, though the method of death was not disclosed. Midland Mayor Lori Blong provided these details.

Andrea Mendias, who works at a nearby body shop, reported hearing sounds resembling an explosion from the closed veterinary clinic. She observed heavily armed police officers arriving swiftly at the scene. Officers appeared to enter the building.

Mendias also recounted hearing around 40 gunshots. Her recorded video captured officers exiting an armored vehicle and deploying robots in the area.

At Midland Memorial Hospital, four individuals required surgery. Three others received treatment and were released. Two patients remained in stable condition.

The city of Midland, with a population of about 140,000, is central to the state’s oil region. It was close to a 2019 shooting rampage where a gunman, dismissed from an oil services job, killed seven people and injured two dozen others as he fired randomly in the Odessa and Midland areas. These cities are located over 300 miles west of Dallas.
