Shooting in Coney Island Injures Eight, Including Two Children

Eight individuals were injured in a shooting on Saturday night in Coney Island. The incident took place as crowds had gathered for a Fourth of July fireworks display. The shooting occurred at around 10:37 p.m., according to police reports.

The location of the event was near 2929 West 31st Street in Brooklyn, adjacent to Surf Avenue and close to the Coney Island boardwalk. The fireworks had started around 10 p.m.

The victims included a range of ages, from six to 37 years old. Notably, a 21-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was in critical condition by early Sunday.

Among the injured were four boys aged six, seven, 12, and 14. The six-year-old was wounded in the abdomen. The seven-year-old suffered gunshot injuries to both legs. Despite these injuries, all the victims were expected to recover.

Authorities have not yet determined the motive for the shooting. As of the latest reports, no arrests had been made, and the shooter remained unidentified.
