A report indicates that Ayanle Siad Barre, son of former Somali dictator Mohamed Siad Barre, has been living in Ohio. The New York Post identified Ayanle, 61, as residing in the Columbus area, which hosts a significant Somali community. His sister, Deka Mohamed Siad, also lives in Ohio.
Mohamed Siad Barre’s rule spanned from 1969 to 1991, marked by allegations of mass killings and human rights abuses, including actions against the Isaaq clan. His regime is accused of leaving up to 200,000 dead. Mohamed Siad Barre passed away in 1995.
Historian Mohamed Haji Ingiriis referred to Ayanle as his father’s “right-hand man,” claiming he held substantial power. These allegations have not been independently verified by Fox News Digital.
Past reports have noted figures from Barre’s era living in the U.S., such as former Somali military commander Yusuf Abdi Ali. In 2024, an immigration judge found that Ali participated in torture within the Somali National Army. He was subsequently deported from Virginia to Somalia in December 2024. ICE official Russell Hott asserted that the U.S. will not harbor those guilty of human rights violations.
Ayanle has founded Somal Global Services, a translation company. His sister Deka operated Vanguard Home Health Care, which received over $1.8 million in Medicare funding. The Post indicated the business filed all required paperwork and appeared legitimate.
Some survivors of the dictatorship urge U.S. authorities to investigate the Barre family’s actions during the regime. Activist Suleiman Bolaleh demands an examination of their knowledge or participation in the dictatorship. However, no wrongdoing by Ayanle or other family members has been confirmed.
Attempts to reach Ayanle Siad Barre for comment through public means were unsuccessful. Institutions like ICE, the Department of Justice, and Medicare & Medicaid Services did not respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital.
