Star Meat Delivery Inc. Recalls Over 167,000 Pounds of Meat Due to Lack of Federal Inspection

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall by Star Meat Delivery Inc. The recall involves approximately 167,639 pounds of raw beef, pork, and goat. These products were produced without federal inspection.

The recall is classified as Class I, indicating a health hazard. This classification is used when there is a reasonable probability that consuming the product can cause serious health issues or death. Products marked with “EST. 1363” are deemed unsafe for consumption, according to the alert.

Across the U.S., various recalls have been issued for issues such as contamination, lack of inspection, and undeclared allergens. Recently, J. HIGGS brand loaded bacon and cheddar potato chips were also recalled for potentially undeclared soy content.

What You Need to Know

According to the alert, affected products were produced on different dates before Tuesday and distributed under the A&D Foods label to restaurants and retail locations nationwide. These products are vacuum-sealed and packed in cardboard boxes. Individual consumer packages might not have the recall label as retail stores may add their own labeling.

No confirmed injuries or illnesses have been associated with this recall, says the FSIS. The recalled products include several types of meat, such as:

The issue was found during FSIS surveillance activities. Food produced without inspection might contain allergens, harmful bacteria, or contaminants that pose health risks.

FSIS may update the list of products as more information becomes available. Consumers, retailers, and restaurants should check if they have any recalled items. Products should not be consumed and should be returned to the place of purchase or discarded.

This recall comes amid broader concerns about foodborne illnesses, including national salmonella and cyclospora cases.

According to Keith Schneider, a food safety professor at UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, the frequency of recalls indicates the effectiveness of the food-safety system. He emphasizes that while food cannot be entirely risk-free, the system’s ability to identify and resolve issues is key to safeguarding public health.
